A.
Doulas give support throughout the mother's pregnancy by helping prepare her for labor and birth, assisting with the birth plan, and answering questions as they arise. Your doula will be present providing support through your entire labor and birth, and for some time afterwards. Doulas commonly have a ongoing connection with the families they have assisted.
Studies* have shown that having a doula present at your birth helps in the following ways:
- 50% reduction in cesarean rates
- 25% shorter labor
- 60% reduction in epidural requests
- 40% reduction in oxytocin (pitocin) use
- 30% reduction in analgesia use

-
A.
Your doula not only supports the mother, but also helps support the parents as a couple. We recognize the importance of parental bonding as a couple. It is not the place of a doula to replace, but enhance the partners ability to also support. Partners can lean on doulas when they need a rest, or more motivation. Birth can be overwhelming and your doula will be there to help guide you through any situation.
